13U MNS Red Sox

The 13U Mac N Seitz Red Sox finished 2nd in the Platinum (top) Division of the AAYBA World Series in St. Louis last week. After dropping the opening game of pool play the Red Sox won 5 straight to reach the championship game. During the 5 game winning streak they outscored their opponents 41-15.

Every player contributed during the successful run to the championship game. The offense was triggered by Matthew Bozich who had 9 RBI for the tournament while Matthew Dye, Brendan Stanek and Jack Pauley each had 7 hits. Luke Wilmes launched a 2-run tape measure homer to clinch game 5.

The pitching staff was anchored by Miller Hogan who threw two excellent ballgames allowing only 5 runs and walking only 2 batters in 13 innings. In game 5, Brendan Stanek pitched a 4-hit complete game allowing only 2 earned runs while striking out 3 with no walks.

Defense was also key to the successful run. Nick Bosma and Jared Robbins shared duties behind the plate, enduring near 100 degree heat to control the running game and make several outstanding defensive plays. Shane Gottch showed soft hands and excellent range at 2nd base handling 25 chances without an error. The defensive highlight of the tournament was made in the championship game by Andrew Marquardt when he reached over the center field fence to rob a home run ball.

Congratulations Red Sox on an outstanding season that included 2 tournament championships, a 4th place finish in the MO/KAN Major State tournament, and a 2nd place finish in the AAYBA World Series.
